Kristy placed her hands on the laptop keyboard. It was early in the morning and she was wide awake. Her mom slept soundly in one of the beds while she sat at the hotel room desk. Kristy felt her hands meld with and then melt into the electronic pathways of the computer, through the keyboard, and then her brain linked into the vast network of wireless and digital information available on the electronic super highway.

As information flashed through her mind she began to filter through it. She wanted to tap into the buzz of Daylight City and see if she could find any information about Calvin or Brynostro. She still wanted to help them. Sitting in a hotel room while the city was a mess just didn’t feel right. It would be enough to satisfy most of the people in Daylight City, who would depend on city politicians, emergency personnel, and the federal government aid to take care of them in the time of need. Kristy wanted to do more.

It wasn’t long before she began to find the info she was looking for, articles regarding the attempted assassination on the President the night before. The websites that reported the story were mostly conspiracy theory reporting, but sifting through electronic communications from police and secret service confirmed the story. Or, they at least confirmed that something had happened.

In some of the photographs Kristy found, mostly cell phone pictures taken by witnesses, Kristy saw that Calvin was present. Through piecing together the information from many sources, she was able to put together some of the events. Calvin had been working for the man who was shot and killed. Calvin had left shortly after. Through examining the materials further, Kristy was sure that the President had not been the target. The assassin had got who he or she had come for. Now, there was the curiosity about who the shooter was. Kristy wasn’t able to find any information on that.

She did, however, learn some details about the organization called the Council of Dark Agents. The group was extremely secretive, but some low level operatives had been careless. The group operated much like a religious cult. They recruited members and gained donations all in preparation for an event they referred to as The Great Reckoning. The event was scheduled to take place in three years’ time and would involve the ‘true believers’ being transported to outer space to serve The Master. It all sounded like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to Kristy, but she did find they were also the suspected masterminds behind numerous terrorist attacks around the globe. Much of the information available on them was vague at best. Mentally Kristy thought out an e-mail response to Calvin. The entire process of researching and sending the message took only moments.

Something else caught her attention as she mentally raced through news reports, text messages, blogs, social networking sites, and digital phone calls. There was a buzz about seeing uniquely acting street people throughout the city, whom dressed strangely too.
